Mount Jefferson, standing tall at 10,497 feet, is the second highest peak in Oregon and is nestled in the heart of the Cascade Range within the Mount Jefferson Wilderness. Known for its challenging icy summit pinnacle, it has long been a beacon for daring adventurers. On March 30, 1806, Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition named this peak after President Thomas Jefferson, the expedition's founder. The first recorded ascent was made on August 12, 1888, by Ray L. Farmer and E.C. Cross.
This stunning Mount Jefferson Bench Mark Medallion pays homage to the dominant feature of the High Cascades area, capturing the essence of Mount Jefferson's rugged beauty. The mountain is graced with five glaciers—Whitewater, Waldo, Milk Creek, Russell, and Jefferson Park—each adding to its majestic allure. The surrounding terrain boasts steep talus slopes, striking rock outcrops, and serene alpine meadows. With over 150 lakes, many teeming with trout, the area offers a haven for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
