The Banks Lake Area in Washington begins at the east end of Lake Chelan and extends east to include beautiful Banks Lake. Banks Lake is a 27-mile long reservoir in Central Washington State. It’s part of the Columbia Basin Project and occupies the north portion of the Grand Coulee, a formerly dry coulee near the Columbia River that formed itself during the Missoula Floods. It’s named after Frank A. Banks, the construction supervisor of the Grand Coulee Dam
We personally think the most interesting map title in this group is Mold! Maybe interesting isn't the right word - but it definitely caught our attention. According to Origin of Washington Geographic Names by Edmond S. Meany - Mold earned it's lovely name from their resident postmaster Marshall McLean in 1899. He claimed it was to make Mold's name for distinctive than others and for it's rich soil. Whether he was being sarcastic or not.. the World may never know.
The 7.5 minute maps by USGS are the most detailed topographic maps of Washington State and are the best tool for figuring out the shape of the land using contour lines. Hills, depressions, cliffs, plateaus, and other physical features are clearly marked on these maps, while colors and symbols indicate whether these hills are wooded or clear. Roads, trails, power lines and shelters are also marked.
Each map measures approximately 22" x 27".
