Seattle hosted the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in 1909 to showcase its growth, refinement, and arrival as a major city. Held at the University of Washington, the fair promoted trade with Alaska and Asia, symbolizing Seattle as the gateway to the Pacific and a hub of civilization, innovation, and future expansion.
We believe William (or Rollin) Caughney to be the illustrator/cartographer and it was lithographed by Schmidt Lithography. The Schmidt Lithography Company, founded in 1873 by German immigrant Max Schmidt, became the largest printing firm on the West Coast—surviving multiple fires, including the 1906 earthquake, and is remembered today for its iconic clock tower at Second and Bryant Streets in San Francisco.
