The Ansel Adams Wilderness was formerly called the Minarets Wilderness, and was renamed in 1984 to honor the talented landscape photographer Ansel Adams. Spectacular alpine scenery can be found in this region that is situated in the high alpine zone with elevations ranging from 7,000 to 14,000 feet. It is part of the Sierra Nevada and Inyo National Forests. The Pacific Crest Trail and the John Muir Trail cross the region.
