Prince of Wales Island at the southeast end of SE Alaska is the third largest island in the United States of America - only Kodiak Island and the Big Island of Hawaii are larger in area.The Prince of Wales Archipelago, named in 1793 by Captain George Vancouver, includes the main island and hundreds of adjacent islands. It is 135 miles long and 45 miles across at its widest.
